Extra/ordinary Design Workshop and Exhibition, Zagreb, 28 March - 1 April 2011, organised by the School of Design, University of Zagreb, Croatian Designers Association in partnership with URIHO and the Association for Promoting Inclusion (UPI), funded by The British Council, Croatia
Lead designer: Ian McIntyre
Regional leader: Maja Mesić
Product Range 1
Handthrown pendant lights and bowls with a dipped glaze edge in concave shapes. The range was designed around the Uriho ceramist Goga's throwing technique and is aimed at high-end design stores.
Product Range 2
Small-scale products that exploit the qualities of Uriho's low-fired clay.
Pestle and Mortar
A set of pestles and mortars for grinding locally-grown herbs such as lavender. The pestles are hollow with a thicker wall at the grinding end for extra strength and have a pleasing weight. The porous nature of the clay and unglazed surface absorbs and slowly diffuses the aroma.
Plant Pots
A family of small hand-thrown pots for young plants. One is stamped with perforation lines and comes with a packet of seeds. When the plant needs repotting, the pot can be broken along the perforation lines and the fragments used as drainage material in the larger pot. The other pots come with variations of simple metal hooks. One hook creates a hanging basket that supports the growth of the plant. The other pot can be hooked onto walls or other larger pots to form clusters of planters.
Pendant
A small pendant necklace made from a plaster mould. The front of the pendant is unglazed to absorb the scent of the user's perfume. The back is to be stamped the maker's mark and dipped in a rich red glaze, a classic Uriho and Croatian colour.
