24 Hour Inclusive Design Challenge at Include 2011, 17-19 April 2011, sponsored by Sanctuary Care
Team All Sorts
Team leader: Peter Cathersides (Pete & Pete)
Design partner: Sally Curran
As the world becomes increasingly digital and information migrates from the high street to the Internet, many people are becoming marginalised and isolated.
Sally Curran, the team's design partner feels she is one of these people. She does not own a computer or have a Facebook account. Sally has lost touch with acquaintances and is becoming isolated from information and other social and cultural possibilities as a result. Meanwhile new technology like the iPad is an opportunity for visually impaired people to enlarge text.
How Simply is a way to learn computing in your local coffee shop. Several times a week, your local coffee shop will devote a table to sharing information relating to technology. By helping people to engage with technology, they can rediscover information. As they gain confidence, they will feel more independent. Once people who have used the scheme feel confident, they could sign up to pass their new skills on to others, enabling more and more people to experience an improved quality of life.
