Poll-i-nation

Poll-i-nation is a smart phone application that empowers. It uses GPS technology but does not have a map interface as its main purpose is not navigation but finding out the stories of the space you are in. Each story is a 'seed' that gets planted in a particular spot. Your phone starts to vibrate when you are in range of a seed and guides you to it. Popular stories or stories that cluster together in one spot - a 'patch' of stories - are the easiest to find. Poll-i-nation also keeps track of your route.

From the main screen, you can set your starting point or plant a seed by recording a story. Stories can be an audio photo (a picture with attached audio), audio alone, or text. The story can be: a soundscape; birdsong; factual information or a poem. When you find a planted seed and want to listen to the story, just touch the screen and it will play automatically. If there are multiple stories in a patch, your phone will keep vibrating so that you can click to listen to the next one, if you wish.

Poll-i-nation empowers individuals and groups to put their own personal stamp on their rural environment and engage with other members of their community.
