Notes for Presenters

Oral paper presentations
The conference has been streamed into four themes. These are: Public Life, Home & Health, Design Theory and Design Practice. Each theme will comprise of five 60 minute sessions and one 90 minute session. Presenters were informed which session they were presenting in.

Sessions lasting 60 minutes consisted of four oral presentations followed by a panel discussion. Each Presenter spoke for 12 minutes leaving approx 10-12 minutes for the panel discussion at the end. Each session was chaired and chairs were briefed to keep strictly to time.

Sessions lasting 90 minutes consisted of 6 oral presentations followed by a panel discussion. Each Presenter spoke for 12 minutes leaving approx 15-18 minutes for the panel discussion at the end. Each session was chaired and chairs were briefed to keep to strict time levels.

Paper sessions and workshop sessions were in parallel and took place throughout Include 2011.

  • Each oral presentation lasted a maximum of 12 minutes.
  • This was followed by audience questions and a panel discussion at the end of the session (approx 3 minutes per paper).
  • The presentation was introduced by the session chair who also directed questions during the panel discussion.
  • All presenters were requested to keep strictly to timings and explain concisely the key questions, ideas and findings.
  • Presenting authors had to be present for the complete session, not just for their presentation.

As we wanted to actively generate group discussion in each session, questions were not taken after each presentation but instead; all presenters were invited to form a panel at the end of the session. The session chairinitially took questions to clarify individual presentations, followed by a general discussion on the session theme.

Poster presentations
Posters were displayed in the Henry Moore gallery throughout the conference. All authors were requested to bring their A1 posters ready to be mounted and displayed at the start of the conference.

Two special poster presentation sessions for all delegates took place 15.30-16.30 on Monday 18 April and 15.30-16.30 on Tuesday 19 April. Poster authors were asked to be present by their posters during these sessions to discuss their work.
