Beverley Norris
Background and Interests
Beverley Norris has more than 20 years experience in human factors and ergonomics research, consultancy and practice. Previously, she managed a large human factors research group in a RAE 5* rated department at the University of Nottingham. She set up a product safety research group and led a government sponsored consumer safety research programme for over 10 years. She is a past Editor of the journal Applied Ergonomics, a member of the Institute for Ergonomics and Human Factors and a Standing Group member of the Clinical Human Factors Group.
Key projects have included:
- Patient safety: publication of NHS guidance on medical devices; development of an NHS Information Standards Board (ISB) standard on patient identifiers; development of national protocol for double checking of injectable anaesthetic drugs; EPSRC Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre 'MATCH' Multidisciplinary Assessment of Technology Centre for Health
- Consumer/product safety: assessment of consumer safety incident reporting system; design of consumer product packaging and safety labelling; children's choking hazards; toy safety; children's 'mouthing' behaviour; falls from stepladders; children's finger entrapment in pushchairs.
- Rail: Human factors research programme for Rail Safety and Standards Board and Network Rail; EPSRC 'Rail Research UK' programme.
- Environmental design: Building Occupant Interaction Research Programme (Office of Deputy Prime Minister); evaluation of loft stair design; measurement of impact forces into interior glazing; glazing manifestation design
