Margaret Durkan is Communication Manager of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design. She spent many years producing ceramics and running a studio pottery before gaining a BA(Hons) in Furniture and Product Design at Kingston University.
She then studied business skills before working for the Design Council and an architecture and interior design consultancy as a project co-ordinator, where she managed a variety of space planning projects including a bingo hall and a golf club. She joined the Royal College of Art in 1997 as the DesignAge administator. During this period, she completed a research MA in Design Studies at Central St Martins, writing a thesis on organic design.
As Communication Manager at the Centre, she has a broad range of responsibilities that include managing the Centre's website, implementing the HHCD identity and art directing the design and production of its publications, exhibitions and events.
