The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the RCA organises its practice-based research activity within three research labs:
Each lab works with a range of academic and business partners, and with funding from UK research councils.
The Age & Ability research lab has a focus on the study and application of inclusive design and design ethnography. Its work builds on the centre's heritage in exploring design for ageing populations. As part of its research into design that responds to more diverse populations in terms of age and ability, the centre has developed key people-centred design methodologies and created two further research labs: Health & Patient Safety and Work & City.
All three research labs are underscored and supported by new RCA graduates conducting practice-led design research on the Helen Hamlyn Research Associates Programme, by a record of professional and academic publishing in the field, and by UK Research Council awards.
